Overview

A gritty, high-intensity title sequence for "Oblivion Protocol," a conceptual psychological thriller exploring the inescapable nature of a traumatic past. The project involved extensive motion design in Adobe After Effects, blending curated cinematic footage with original recordings to establish a dark, immersive tone.

Insight

To mirror the protagonist's internal struggle with "guilt, anger, and fear," the visual direction prioritized an intentionally uncomfortable aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from the visceral style of the Se7en title sequence, I used "ugly" and abrasive motion to place the audience directly into the character's fractured headspace.

Challenges

The primary challenge was a significant technical setback where I lost all project progress in the final weeks of working on it, requiring a complete reconstruction from scratch under an extreme deadline. Additionally, I had to pivot from a complex dual-track audio concept to a focused "dark side" narrative that maintained emotional impact without becoming overwhelming.

My Solution

I implemented a symbolic colour palette, Red for anger, Blue for calm, and Green for the path and memory, to navigate the character's psyche. To enhance the tactile feel, I juxtaposed formal Copperplate typography with raw, scanned marker handwriting, creating a human, "unfiltered" contrast against the cinematic visuals.

Takeaway

This project was a masterclass in technical resilience and the power of psychological storytelling through motion. It sharpened my ability to use colour theory and mixed-media typography to communicate complex, abstract emotions like the "collective unconscious" within a commercial format. one of my favourite works, I enjoyed every second I spent on it.
